Trinity Column Baden bei Wien

The construction of Trinity Column, in Baden bei Wien was initiated as a result of a vow made by the citizens of Baden after safely surviving the plague in 1713. It was brought to life by the Italian sculptor Giovanni Stanetti, who executed the project based on the plans created by the painter Altomonte. The construction work spanned from 1714 to 1718. The pillory used to be located where the current “plague column” stands today. During the foundation work, a stone bench from the Roman era was discovered. Evidence supporting the existence of the ancient city known as “Aquae”.The “Ferdinandsbrunnen” was installed on the front of the Trinity Column on June 13, 1833, and began operating on that day. The purpose of this event is to commemorate the unsuccessful assassination attempt on the former Crown Prince, who later became Emperor Ferdinand.
