The Carinthian Botany Center

The Carinthian Botany Center is situated at the base of the Kreuzbergl in the historic quarry of Klagenfurt am Wörthersee, the provincial capital. It comprises a botanical garden, the Carinthian state herb bar, and a specialist library.

Visitors can explore the captivating flora of Carinthia in the botanical garden, which is enhanced by unique features from various parts of the world.

The Carinthian Botanical Center boasts several highlights, including the state flower of Carinthia, Wulfenia carinthiaca, a stunning fern and moss gorge, a powerful waterfall, various wet biotopes, and an impressive cactus collection.Discover the captivating plant life of Carinthia, presented in a concise manner and enhanced with unique characteristics from various parts of the globe.

The Botanical Garden offers a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the beauty of nature. Additionally, it serves as a valuable resource for anyone seeking to learn fascinating facts about the world of plants. The experience begins with numerous information labels placed next to different plants. It is worth noting that some of these labels are also written in Braille. The experience concludes with the Wednesday presentations, which occur twice a month at 5pm, regardless of the weather.

The primary focus is on conducting research, providing education, offering advice, and most importantly, conserving rare or threatened species in the plant world. Furthermore, a publication known as the “Index Seminum” is released annually to facilitate the global exchange of young plants and seeds.
