Tegetthoffplatz

During the period of Gründerzeit expansion in Graz, there were plans to create a market square at this location. However, instead of a market square, a green space was ultimately established. In 1887, the name “Elisabethplatz” was given to this location, just like the nearby Elisabethstraße, as a tribute to Empress Elisabeth. In 1935, the monument of Austrian admiral Tegetthoff was relocated from its original location in Pula, which is now part of Yugoslavia. This relocation also led to the renaming of the square.
