Tauplitz parish church is a Roman Catholic Church located in the town of Tauplitz in the district of Liezen in Styria. Tauplitz, together with the parishes of Bad Aussee, Altaussee, Grundlsee, Bad Mitterndorf, and Kumitz, has been part of the newly formed pastoral care region of the Styrian Salzkammergut in the Diocese of Graz-Seckau from September 1, 2020.
Tauplitz became the site of a Protestant mission station in 1752. In 1785, a new structure was built, and it became a separate parish in 1788. The church was restored three times: in 1923, 1955, and 1973. In 1984, to commemorate the church’s 200th anniversary, Pastor Anton Decker oversaw a thorough reconstruction and restoration of the building.
The nave is divided into two bays by space vaults between transverse arches. These have stucco moldings on them. The two-bay choir faces the nave and has a straight end with corner bevels.Platzl vaults connect it. It is connected to a low sacristy expansion. A western gallery is closed off by the nave.A tower with an onion dome rises from the western end of the roof.
The high altar, erected in 1788 by wood sculptor and painter Johann Fortschegger, was renovated and re-gilded in 1891; Val Gardena sculptures of St. Peter and St. Paul were purchased. Martin Johann Schmidt (Kremser Schmidt) created the oval painting “Christ on the Cross” in 1787.
In 1893, the pulpit by Johann Fortschegger was dismantled, and the side altars were rebuilt, with the original Baroque figures carved over. While the Sacred Heart of Jesus statue is more contemporary, the late-Gothic standing cross with the crucified Christ and the helper figures of Mary and John dates from 1440 to 1450. An unnamed painter painted 15 late-Baroque-rural Stations of the Cross on wooden panels in the church interior.
Franz Hötzel built the organ in 1858.
