Tappenkarsee

The Tappenkarsee is a spacious mountain lake located in Salzburg, specifically in the Radstädter Tauern region, at an elevation of approximately 1762 meters above sea level.E. Fugger conducted the initial survey of the lake in 1908.The lake is fed by the Kleinarlbach, which provides it with fresh water of exceptional quality.

The Tappenkarsee is a highly sought-after destination for hiking, mountain climbing, and skiing tours.The most convenient route to reach the Tappenkarsee is by going through Kleinarl and the Jägersee.Hikers have the option to either take the bus or drive their car to the Schwabalm car park.During the approximately three and a half hour hike, hikers overcome an altitude of around 700 meters until they reach the Tappenkarsee. At this point, a breathtaking view of the beautiful lake and surrounding mountains unfolds.During the summer, visitors have the option to stay at two serviced huts near the Tappenkarsee. The first one is called Tappenkarseealm, located directly on the lake shore. The second one, called Tappenkarseehütte, is situated about a half-hour hike away, approximately 50 meters above the lake. Both huts offer overnight accommodations for those who wish to stay.The hike from Jägersee to Tappenkarsee, which includes two lakes, is especially favored by families with children.Mountaineers have the opportunity to explore additional tour options beyond the Tappenkarsee.

The Salzburg prince-archbishops brought fish from the Tappenkarsee and Jägersee due to their exceptional water quality and suitability for fishing. They served these fish to their guests.
