Steyrer Kripperl

The Steyrer Kripperl, a classic stick puppet theater, may be found in the Innerberger Stadel, Steyr, Grünmarkt 26.

The crib may be found on the first floor of the Innerberger Stadel.There is seating for 110 people in the auditorium, as well as standing room.The 5 m wide, 2 m high, and 3 m deep stage is separated into three sections: the lower stage, the main stage, and the back stage.The gallery, a well, and a shepherd scene, as well as the centrally located cradle with the birth of Christ behind it, are all on the bottom stage.Various handicrafts are displayed on two floors to the right and left of the crib.These are figures and devices that move mechanically.These are distinct from the immobile religious nativity figures and hand-held stick puppets on the top level.These stick puppets appear on the main stage in front of Steyr’s historic town houses, as well as on a bridge arch in the middle.Behind this arch is a changeable background painting known as the “backstage.”
