The Stadtgalerie Klagenfurt has been showcasing classical and modern art through a variety of exhibitions since its establishment in 1996.The exhibition has showcased works by renowned artists such as Klimt, Schiele, Kokoschka, Morandi, Feininger, Man Ray, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Paul Klee, Daniel Spoerri, Jean Tinguely, Meret Oppenheim, and Max Ernst.
The Stadtgalerie Klagenfurt, located in the former infirmary, has gained a reputation as an avant-garde institution. It has a specific focus on showcasing international modernism.
The exhibitions feature carefully selected works from classical international modernism, including artists like Andy Warhol, Egon Schiele, and Henri Toulouse-Lautrec. Additionally, they showcase emerging artists from Europe, such as Jim Avignon, Marie-Claire Baldenweg, and Katrin Bremermann. The museum also organizes themed exhibitions, one of which explores the art metropolis Vienna in the year 1900. In the year 2000, a significant event occurred known as “The Birth of Modernity” in the realm of Japanese Woodcuts.
