St. Pölten Main Station

The St. Pöltner Hauptbahnhof, also known as Bahnhof St. Pölten, is a through station and railway junction in St. Pölten, Lower Austria. It is located on the Western Railway, which opened in 1858 and serves as the starting point for many railway lines.

The ground-breaking ceremony for the St. Pölten main station took place on September 9, 1856, after the decision to build the “Kaiserin-Elisabeth-Westbahn” in 1851.The construction of the train station resulted in a considerable shift in the structure of the city.

All long-distance and regional trains, with a few exceptions, stop at St. Pölten Hbf.The station is a stop on the main European railway from Paris to Bratislava/Budapest due to its placement on both the current Austrian Western Railway and its future line. The trains to Vienna are the most essential link.Regional fast trains and regional trains do, however, travel in the direction of Vienna, as well as Amstetten and Linz.
