The designation was granted to the Steiermärkische Sparkasse upon their request to commemorate their 150th anniversary. Prior to its current name, the area was known as “Stainzerhofgasse,” named after the Stadthof of the Stainz Abbey. However, the Stadthof was demolished in 1969.
