- Schrannenmarkt Salzburg
The Salzburg Schranne is a weekly market hosted directly in front of St. Andrew’s Church on the plaza. Every Thursday, merchants from the city and nearby areas sell regional foods, flowers, and arts and crafts.
In 1906, a “weekly market for rural products” was established in front of the Andräkirche. This weekly Salzburg market, together with the Naschmarkt and Brunnenmarkt marketplaces in Vienna, is one of the largest and most well-known in Austria. Farmers, producers, and food stalls begin selling high-quality delicacies at a reasonable price from 5 a.m.
While flowers and plants are in high demand in the summer, Advent wreaths and “Palm Bushes” are the biggest items at the market’s 190 various stalls in the winter. If you are hungry, we recommend ordering a succulent rotisserie chicken, a transparent fish soup, or a traditional Salzburg snack from a sausage stand.
