- Roman bridge at St. Dionysen
The Roman bridge at St. Dionysen is located in Oberdorf, Styria, on the path to Sankt Dionysen in the municipality of Bruck a der Mur in the region of Bruck-Mürzzuschlag.The arched bridge, which was most likely built in Roman times out of quarry stones.
In 1454, the bridge was referenced in a text.It was most likely part of the old Roman post route that ran from Flavia Solva (near today’s Wagna) via the Murtal to Poedicum (today’s Bruck a der Mur) and then to Stiriate (today’s Liezen).
The bridge’s construction date is unknown. It is identified as a Roman building in the survey study Roman Bridges (1993) by the Australian engineer O’Connor, who alludes to an older publication from the 1960s.However, it does not appear in Galliazzo’s 1994 inventory, which is significantly more detailed.
A bridge at Badl with a piece of this Roman road’s course has also been preserved.
