The Ringkogel area was inhabited in prehistoric times, as evidenced by the ruins of a Hallstatt and La Tène period village atop the hill. The Celtic ring wall inspired the mountain’s name. The Ringkogel was utilized as a signal hill for chalk fires because to its exposed location and unobstructed view of Eastern Styria until the Kuruc invasions in the early 18th century.

The summit is currently occupied by the Ringwarte, a nationally recognized observation tower.Visitors may enjoy a panoramic view of the East Styrian hills from here.Raimund Obendrauf, the mayor of Hartberg, built it in 1906.A 30 m wooden observation tower is built on the granite ground level. The ring station was refurbished in 2007/08.
