Rettenbachklamm

The Rettenbachklamm is the sole gorge located within the city of Graz. It is a valley section of the Rettenbach (Steinbach).It is situated between Platte and Kogelberg, making it a highly sought-after destination.

The small gorge offers a captivating hiking experience with its diverse and picturesque natural surroundings.The trail takes you through a lush ravine forest filled with herbs, following the Rettenbach until you reach the charming hamlet of Wenisbuch.The gorge’s unique climatic conditions, characterized by cool summers and mild winters, contribute to the remarkable display of ferns and mosses. These natural wonders are truly impressive and definitely worth a visit.According to the Styrian Nature Conservation Act, it is a designated and protected area of the landscape.

To reach the Rettenbachklamm, you can take tram line 1 in the direction of Mariatrost.Once you get off at the Waldhof stop, take a short walk along the footpath and cycle path towards Mariatrost. Then, make a left turn onto Mariatroster Straße and cross it to reach Steingrabenweg. At the end of Steingrabenweg, you will find the entrance to the gorge.Due to the limited availability of parking spaces for cars, we highly recommend opting for a bicycle as your mode of transportation. You can conveniently reach our location by following the R23 cycle route, specifically the Mariatroster cycle path.

The northern end of the Rettenbachklamm is approximately a 15-minute walk away from the tram line 1 terminus and the Postbus stops.For those looking to extend their excursion from the northern end of the gorge, there are several options to consider. The Platte, Hauenstein, and various restaurants in Wenisbuch are all great choices.
