Relief of Carinthia

The Relief of Carinthia (Relief von Kärnten) is a huge relief model of the province of Carinthia, located in the Schillerpark in Villach. It covers 182 square meters and depicts the province at a scale of 1:10,000, with a vertical exaggeration of 2.5 times. The model was created by sculptor Hans Peter Profunser between 1913 and 1919, based on the topographic maps of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. It shows the natural features, settlements, roads, railways, and borders of Carinthia, as well as some historical and cultural landmarks. The model is made of plaster and painted in natural colors, and it is protected by a glass roof.

The Relief of Carinthia is a unique attraction that offers a bird’s-eye view of the region and its diverse landscape. Visitors can admire the mountains, valleys, lakes, rivers, and forests of Carinthia, as well as spot some of the famous sights, such as the Wörthersee, the Grossglockner, the Hochosterwitz Castle, and the Villach Alpine Road. The model also has an interactive feature, where visitors can press buttons to illuminate certain points of interest and learn more about them. The Relief of Carinthia is a great way to explore and appreciate the beauty and history of Carinthia, and it is especially popular among children and families.
