Red Bull Hangar-7

Hangar -7, located on the east side of Salzburg Airport, features a collection of antique aircraft, helicopters, and Formula 1 racing vehicles belonging to tycoon Dietrich Mateschitz, who died on October 22, 2022.The steel skeleton is completely covered with transparent glass.The ellipsoid is sliced at an angle at the hangar door and is punctured by two cylindrical towers at the opposite entrance.

The building is an exhibition space as well as an event and gathering place, with its “Ikarus” restaurant, two bars, an outdoor lounge, and a café.

When construction began in October 1999, Hangar-7 was intended to house the Flying Bulls, whose fleet had grown too large for the existing space at Innsbruck Airport in the late 1990s.Volkmar Burgstaller, an Austrian architect, designed the hangar, and development on the land east of the runway at Salzburg Airport began in January 2001. The building was officially opened on August 22, 2003.

With free admission, the structure gets over 200,000 visitors each year.

The greatest display in the museum, as well as the largest aircraft of the Flying Bulls, is a Douglas DC-6B.The plane was once the presidential jet of Yugoslav Marshal and then President Tito.Due to the height of the machine’s vertical tail, a folding element had to be added above the hangar entrance in order to drive the machine into the hangar.
