Plattenkogel

The Plattenkogel, also referred to as the Gerlosplatte, is a well-liked mountain situated at an elevation of 2039 meters above sea level.The Hochkönig is a stunning mountain located in the Zillertal Alps in the Austrian state of Salzburg. It is known for its well-developed tourism infrastructure.The peak was designated as a natural monument in 1933.

The mountain is located to the east of the Durlassboden reservoir, to the south of the Gerlos Pass, and to the west of the Salzach Valley.The nearest towns are Königsleiten and Krimml.The Plattenkogel, which is part of the Zillertal Arena, offers a network of hiking trails and several ski lifts for visitors to enjoy.

The Plattenkogel’s natural monument summit is one of the oldest protected objects in the province of Salzburg.There is a protected area with a circular shape, and its radius measures 150 meters. Due to this reason, the lifts do not provide direct access to the summit area.

The Plattenkogel or its immediate vicinity is home to several protected biotopes, including stocks of alpine roses, rust sedge grassland, and dwarf shrub heath.
