A “garden courtyard association” looks after the grid square garden on the Wieden in Vienna. In addition to the Margaretenstraße 30 entry, the park is also accessible through Preßgasse 24.
The park contains a large sandpit and a lot of playing equipment. You may have a picnic in the meadows.Dogs are not permitted.A section of the park has been cordoned off to make way for the city of Vienna’s day care center.
Employees of the ORF, inhabitants, planners, and local officials have been working on the execution of the “grid square” proposal for a long time, beginning with the initial conversations in fall 1973.Various television shows, tenant meetings, exhibits, the work of a “planning group,” and the cooperation of local authorities all contributed to the project’s eventual success. The “Gartenhof-Verein” was able to begin its care work in the summer of 1977 after a comparable conversion of the courtyard spaces in the centre of the block of homes Margaretenstraße, Preßgasse, and Mühlgasse.
