Pfenningberg

The Pfenningberg is a 616-meter-high mountain east of the Upper Austrian province capital Linz in the municipality of Steyregg. It is geologically part of the Bohemian Massif as an offshoot of the lower Mühlviertel.

The Pfenningberg offers a variety of attractions for different types of visitors. The southern hills provide views of the Voestalpine AG and the old Chemie Linz, as well as the Linz Danube port and the Austriaische Schiffswerften AG. These are some of the major industrial and economic landmarks of Linz, showing the contrast between the urban and natural landscapes.

The Pfenningberg is also a popular local leisure area, attracting both hikers and mountain bikers. There are several trails and paths that lead to the summit, where you can find a cross and a lookout tower. The tower was built in 1898 and renovated in 2010. It offers a panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the Alps and the Danube river.

One of the most exciting features of the Pfenningberg is the Hornet Trail, a mountain bike route that was opened in 2021. The Hornet Trail is the result of a collaboration between the Mountain Bike Initiative Linz (MTB Linz) and the landowners and the town of Steyregg. The trail is designed to be fun and challenging for mountain bikers of all skill levels, with jumps, curves, and obstacles. The trail is also environmentally friendly, as it avoids sensitive areas and follows the natural terrain. Every year, around 30,000 people visit the Hornet Trail, making it one of the most popular mountain bike destinations in Austria.

The Pfenningberg Linz is a mountain that offers something for everyone. Whether you are looking for a relaxing hike, a thrilling ride, or a scenic view, you will find it on the Pfenningberg. It is a place where you can experience the beauty and diversity of nature and culture in Linz.
