Parish Church of St. Georgen am Steinfelde

The Roman Catholic parish church of St. Georgen am Steinfelde is located in the area of St. Georgen am Steinfelde in the Lower Austrian municipality of St. Pölten.The Saint George church is part of the Deanery of St. Pölten in the Diocese of St. Pölten.

In 1248, a church was mentioned in a document.In the 14th century, the church was a vicariate church.The church was partially damaged during the Turkish War (1683).The church was most likely erected around 1749 by Josef Wissgrill.The church was upgraded to the rank of parish church in 1784.The year 1899 saw a makeover.Side aisles were constructed to the nave in 1934.The interior was restored in 1969-1970.

A old cemetery wall surrounds the church on the western fringes to the north and west.

The lofty central nave includes four-axis aisles on the north and south sides, each with round-arched windows and modest porches.Three ancient two-lane pointed arch windows with tracery grace the one-bay choir with a five-eighth note and buttresses.The current west tower, which was most likely built in the 14th century, features a baroque top floor with arched sound windows and a tent roof from the 19th century.

The Rieger brothers of Jägerndorf built the organ in 1894.
