Parish church in Braunau-Höft

The parish church of Braunau-Höft is located in Höft, which falls under the jurisdiction of Braunau am Inn in Upper Austria. It is dedicated to the patron saint Maria Queen of Peace.Since January 1, 2023, Braunau-Höft has become part of the Braunau parish in the diocese of Linz. It is now one of the 14 parishes in the diocese.

The Braunau refugee camp was situated in the Laab district during both World Wars.After World War II ended, there were many barracks that could be repurposed. The church was located in one of these barracks.After the Second World War, there was a significant rise in the attendance of church services. Due to the increasing number of people in the congregation, the current barracks were no longer adequate to accommodate everyone.A decision was made to construct a church.

The church was constructed between 1948 and 1950, following the architectural designs of Anton Danna and Hans Foschumbuilt.The church’s inauguration in 1950 was made possible thanks to the generous contributions of the community. They donated funds and volunteered their time and efforts to make it happen.It is worth mentioning that Pope Pius XII also contributed funds to finance the construction of the church.The church has a statue of Pope Saint Eugene that stands as a tribute to his enduring legacy.

In 1985, the church underwent additional construction, which included the addition of a church tower that featured four bells.Throughout the development process, a rectory was built, which transformed the entire church premises into a welcoming environment for encountering God, facilitating communication, and promoting comfort.
