Museum St. Peter an der Sperr

The St. Peter a der Sperr Museum is located on Petersgasse in the Lower Austrian statutory town of Wiener Neustadt.The former Dominican convent is a historic structure.The St. Peter a der Sperr display church is architecturally attached to the city museum.

After nine months of renovation and redesign, the Wiener Neustädter Stadtmuseum’s new permanent collection debuted on April 10, 2016 with a “Open Day.” The most significant goal of the display collection rearrangement was a new method based on the unique qualities of the city’s history, as well as the traceability of development lines from the city’s past to the present day.

Archaeologists discovered two medieval tombs in front of the museum during excavations in August 2016 in preparation for planned refurbishment work for the Lower Austrian State Exhibition 2019 named “World in Motion – City.History.Mobility.” The mayor’s garden in front of the museum, the forecourt, and the entrance portal were all rebuilt in preparation for the state exhibition.Furthermore, new passages and transitions were established between the former city museum and the museum church of St. Peter a der Sperr, and the cloister corridors were refurbished.Historic stones and wall decorations have been discovered, and antique windows have been restored.The museum was dubbed Museum St. Peter a der Sperr.The conversion was overseen by the architecture company koup architekten ZT gmbh, and the revival of the building cost five million euros.
