Museum Of Perception (MUWA)

The Museum of Perception, also known as MUWA, is a museum located in Graz. It was established in 1996.It encompasses works from various fields such as art, music, architecture, philosophy, and literature that explore the phenomena of perception. The facility is located in a building that used to be a municipal public baths.

The dropper pool in Friedrichgasse, located on the eastern edge of the Augarten in Graz, was constructed in 1904 based on designs by the municipal building department. It was officially opened on January 16, 1905.The central building of this drip bath was constructed in the shape of an octagon, with a dominating round fireplace at its center. As living conditions improved in the second half of the 20th century, there was a decrease in the number of visitors due to reduced need.I conducted a search for new content that includes innovative features for the public building.

The museum, which was established by Werner Wolf, began operating in 1996 after undergoing conversion and renovation by architect Kocher in collaboration with the Federal Monuments Office. The museum is housed in a remarkable building on the upper floors, following initial test runs in containers located in the city park.

A smaller tub was preserved in the basement, and it was expanded in 1999 as part of the EU project elmas. The expansion included the addition of a samadhi bath (also known as Floating).Architect Anna Popelka’s design won first prize in a competition.
