- Mursteg Bridge
The wooden bridge was built to connect the railway station with the eastern city districts for the city of Murau’s state exhibition “Holzzeit” in 1995.A competition featuring five Austrian, German, and Swiss teams has been announced. The first award went to Zurich architecture firm Meili Peter, Chur civil engineer Jürg Conzett, and Vorarlberg wood building company Anton Kaufmann. The river’s spatial and different course relates to the two banks of differing heights. The two bridge entrances, with varied degrees of height, merge in the massive “window room” above the river, from which the view of the city and Murau Castle is directed.Steel profile pipe dowel shear connections were designed structurally to convey loads between the top chord, the two large shear washers, and the lower chord while preserving resistance.
