Milleniumswarte (Millennium Observatory)

The Millennium Observatory is situated at the summit of Hirschenkogel, a majestic mountain reaching an elevation of 1,340 meters.From the 25-meter-high viewing platform, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of the Semmering-Rax massif. On exceptionally clear days, your sight extends as far as Hungary.

Getting to the summit is actually easier than you might expect. If you are planning to visit the Millennium Observatory, all you need to do is take the Hirschenkogel gondola and then walk the remaining 100 meters.

The name of the observatory is related to the year it was constructed. Known as the Millennium Observatory, it was built in 1999, just before the beginning of the new millennium.

The viewing platform on the Hirschenkogel is elevated above all the treetops, standing at a height of 25 meters. Additionally, the control room, including its roof, reaches an impressive height of 30.5 meters.

The panoramic view is truly remarkable. On a beautiful day, you can see the Semmering-Rax massif stretching from Styria to the Vienna Basin. And on a clear day, the view extends even further to include Burgenland, Lake Neusiedl, and Hungary.

The wood used in the control room is sourced from larch. The construction of the tower includes 104 m³ of larch wood and was built using glued laminated timber construction.A concrete foundation is essential for providing the required stability.

To reach the top, you must first ascend 155 steps on foot.Given the magnificent view, it is an obvious choice.
