The Marian column at Marienplatz was donated by Johann Anton II von Eggenberg in 1683. It was later moved to its current location in 1878. The area was once dominated by a large mill known as “Marienmühle” starting from 1898. However, this mill has been replaced by a modern building called “Rondo” today. The Grazer Mühlgang currently runs beneath the square.
