The Löwygrube park is a 164,000 m2 natural park in the Oberlaa district.Bitterlichstrasse, An der Ostbahn, Donabaumgasse, and Löwyweg go through the park.It is well kept and nearly totally dedicated to dogs.It contains a children’s playground, a soccer field, a public restroom, benches, and a water fountain in addition to wide meadows and ancient trees. The Löwygrube is part of the Kurpark Oberlaa, the Volkspark Laaerberg, the Bohemian Prater, and the Laaerwald are all part of the Laaerberg recreation area.

The Löwygrube was named after Jacob Löwy’s ( 1859-1942) private brickworks, which used to be located here and mined clay and burnt bricks in the Laa Forest. These brick holes left behind the Pipe Pond and the Butter Pond. The Löwygrube was utilized as a landfill after WWII, from the early 1950s until roughly 1965.Following that, it was converted into a local recreation space.Since 2011, the landfill’s polluted areas have been secured. The entire region is now designated as a landscape protection area.
