Liechtenstein Garden Palace

The Liechtenstein Garden Palace is a stunning Baroque structure with an adjoining park. It holds a portion of the royal house’s exceptional private art collection.

The Garden Palace is the second notable Baroque edifice in Vienna belonging to the aristocratic Liechtenstein family, after the Liechtenstein City Palace. The Garden Palace has had an exciting past. For almost two decades, it housed the Museum of Modern Art, which is now known as mumok – Museum of Modern Art Ludwig Foundation Vienna and is located in the MuseumsQuartier.

Although the Liechtenstein Garden Palace is no longer a museum, it currently contains a portion of the Liechtenstein dynasty’s art collection, which is one of the world’s largest and most important private collections. The collection contains masterpieces by Rubens, Raffael, Rembrandt, and other artists from the early Renaissance through the High Baroque period.

There is also porcelain, a large bronze collection, and one of the greatest surviving French ceremonial vehicles, the “Golden Carriage” from 1738. The Badminton Cabinet, the most precious piece of furniture in the world, is a very valuable display. The large number of paintings, sculptures, furniture, china, and tapestries, as well as the architecture of the Liechtenstein Garden Palace, express the pleasant and dignified ambiance of a family collection.
