Kongresspark

The Kongresspark is a 61,000-square-meter public park in Ottakring, western Vienna, on the district boundary with Hernals. It was built in 1927/28 on the site of a former sand extraction site and rubbish dump, according to plans by architect Erich Franz Leischner, and is to be understood as part of the ensemble with the neighboring municipal housing complexes ( Sandleitenhof, Wiedenhoferhof ) from the 1920s (see also the entry Kongressplatz ).The congress pool adjacent to the east was erected at the same time as the park. The vast congress park, with its extensive play facilities for children, plays a major role in leisure activities in Vienna’s still densely populated outer west, attracting people from other sections of the 16th and 17th districts.
