Karlauplatz

In the 1590s, Archduke Charles II constructed a hunting lodge at Karlauplatz, which was considered a secluded location at the time. The structure was subsequently repurposed as both a barracks and a prison, and it has now been incorporated into the overall design of the Graz-Karlau prison building. During the 19th century, Karlau functioned as an independent district, and even today, the name is commonly used in informal conversations.
