Kaprun Power Plant

The Kaprun power plant group consists of storage and pumped storage power stations, as well as related dams, in the Salzburg and Carinthian parts of Austria’s Glockner group.Verbund Hydro Power, Verbund AG’s hydropower generation business, operates it.

The Kaprun power plant group is a network of storage power plants, some of which may also operate as pumps and provide electricity primarily to cover peak needs.The power plants are monitored and managed remotely from a central control center in Kaprun.Two 220 kV lines carry the electricity to the Tauern substation, where it is supplied into the national high-voltage system.

The power plant group consists of the following barrages :

  • Upper stage (Limberg & Limberg II power plant) with: Margaritze reservoir , Mooserboden reservoir
  • Main stage with: Wasserfallboden reservoir
  • Klammsee power plant with: Klammsee reservoir
