Kaprun High Mountain Reservoirs

At 2,036 meters above sea level, the two high mountain reservoirs Wasserfallboden and Mooserboden, like fjords, are immersed in the alpine environment. They bore testament to one of the region’s finest engineering feats. The turbines are concealed under the massive dam walls that keep the turquoise water at bay: this is how power is generated all year. In the summer, you may take a guided tour of the dam walls or utilize the high mountain reservoirs as a starting point for walks to see this interaction of nature and technology. If you are feeling daring, you can even climb the dam wall via a via ferrata.

Transfer buses and the inclined lift may take you to this vacation location. As you go by bus towards the high mountain reservoirs, you can see the enormous, 107-metre-high and 500-metre-long dam wall at Mooserboden. The Lärchwand inclined lift is another highlight of the trek to the upper Alps. It is Europe’s largest open inclined lift, taking you 431 meters uphill over a steep step before a higher-altitude road takes you farther to the reservoirs.
