The Jeserzer See, also known as the Saisser See, is a lake in the municipality of Velden am Wörthersee located on the ridge north of the Wörthersee. It is the focal point of the Jeserzer See natural reserve.
The lake is located at an elevation of 593 meters and has a surface area of 13.3 hectares. It is located in a bog over old crystalline rock. The neighboring hilltops reach heights of up to 693 meters. The lake’s deepest point is 6.6 meters.Because just a few small rivulets serve as tributaries, the lake has a feeble flow and water temperatures that exceed 25 °C in summer. As a result, the Jeserzer See is renowned as a bathing lake.Because of the adjacent moorland, the water is slightly brownish.
The lake’s underwater vegetation is substantially developed.Stoneworts dominate at depths ranging from 1.5 to 4.5 meters, forming a closed carpet.Thousand leaves occur in the shallower areas, and Krause pondweed grows on the west bank. The white water lily appears infrequently. The shorelines are primarily natural, made up of cutting reeds and reeds. On the north bank, black alders grow near the outflow. The beach is often produced by an oscillating grass, in which peat moss and sundew thrive.
With differing borrowing times, the names Saisser and, more recently, Jeserzer See both go to sluggish.Back to jezero, which means ‘the lake’; the first form Saisser and the famed Seisera Alm above the Kanaltal express the meaning ‘behind the lake’: The second form, *za-jezer[om], is derived from the place name (Ober-)Jeserz.
