Jazzland

“Jazzland” holds the distinction of being the oldest jazz club still in operation in Vienna. Axel Melhardt is a remarkable individual and entrepreneur in the jazz scene. As the founder and director of the club, he has dedicated himself to showcasing music from various genres and regions, all while maintaining a sense of style and sophistication.

In 1972, the club was established amidst a modest local jazz scene. Today, the realm of jazz in Vienna is thriving more than ever, thanks to the pioneering work of Jazzland. Jazzland has consistently brought together international stars with Austrian musicians, establishing a strong presence in the city.

The cellar under St. Ruprecht’s Church has hosted performances by nearly all renowned Austrian musicians. Furthermore, over 300 stars from the United States, including legendary musicians like Big Joe Williams, Little Brother Montgomery, Bud Freeman, Max Kaminsky, Teddy Wilson, Clark Terry, Benny Carter, Art Farmer, Ray Brown, Herb Ellis, and Lee Konitz, have made guest appearances.

The club offers a delightful selection of Viennese cuisine, prepared with authenticity and a subtle international influence.
