Jakobskapelle (St. Jakob Chapel) is located in Kaprun, Pinzgau, in the Kaprun Valley. The patronal feast is celebrated on July 25, St. James’ Day.
The little chapel was erected somewhat below Kaprun Castle on the west side.It was first mentioned in writing in 1562.The builder is likely to be nurse Balthasar Dieter von Schedling, who died in 1563 and is buried in the “castle chapel.”It is unknown if there was an older structure. The chapel of St.Jakob, as part of the ensemble, determines the appearance of Kaprun Castle, which has since been repaired and remodeled.
A barrel vault, a little pointed tower with a bell, and a modest sacristy expansion characterize the castle chapel St. Jakob. The church’s baroque interior was created by local artists in the 18th century. As early as 1617, the little church was ornamented with three altars.A portrait of St. Margaretha hangs on the right side wall.It is the early baroque altarpiece of Kaprun’s St. Margaretha parish church. The gravestone of the nurse Balthasar Dieter zu Schedling stands out on the left side wall. The chapel has undergone many renovations. She was clapboarded with woodcovered in 1977 and thoroughly refurbished between 1989 and 1994.
