A new hotspot for superstars in Viennese music: The House of Strauss begins in 2023. Johann Strauss, the Waltz King, performed in the Strauss Hall. He also took over the baton for the 1873 World’s Fair in Vienna. Strauss research now has a home here as well. From April 2023, acclaimed chef Stefan Glantschnig will serve delectable Viennese food.
Johann Strauss (son) is closely identified with Vienna and a global celebrity like Mozart. Since 1867, the entire globe has been listening to his Blue Danube Waltz, which is a constant component of the Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert, which is broadcast to millions of people in 90 countries. You may now look forward to a new Strauss site in Vienna in 2023, which is expected to open in the autumn, and discover more about his intriguing personality and music in a unique setting: The Strauss House in Casino Zögernitz. The new Strauss site in Vienna, near to the golden Strauss memorial in Stadtpark, the Strauss residence on Praterstrasse, and the honorary Strauss tomb in the Central Cemetery.
The history of this original Strauss location is unique: when Johann Strauss Senior founded the casino in 1837, it was a favorite meeting place for Viennese society. Johann Strauss Junior staged a folk festival here in the summer of 1850, complete with a brilliant ball event, towering illuminations, and fireworks. Taking after his renowned father, he gave the event a grandiose title and produced the Johannis-Käferln (Fireflies Op. 82) waltz specifically for it. His brothers Johann and Eduard Strauss would also deliver several concerts in the casino’s lavish Strauss Hall beginning in 1880. It was used as a stage, open-air movie, and for parties and balls in the years that followed. Because of its excellent acoustics, the hall has also operated as a recording studio for early and classical music since 1967, with Nikolaus Harnoncourt and his Concentus Musicus among those to do so.
The venue is also reintroducing another important component of Viennese living: the marriage of culture and pleasure. The House of Strauss combines classical entertainment music in the form of regular concerts (scheduled to begin in 2024), fine dining in the restaurant under chef de cuisine Stefan Glantschnig, and an interactive show (scheduled to begin in autumn 2024) that brings the Strauss dynasty’s heritage to life through cutting-edge multimedia and audiovisual technology.
The globally recognized design and architectural company Atelier Brückner, whose portfolio includes a number of other exceptional projects such as the Grand Museum of Egypt (Giza) and the Museum of the Future (Dubai), upholds the museum’s lofty standards. The architects of Atelier Brückner also worked on the refurbishment of the Austrian Parliament building in Vienna.
Back at the House of Strauss, guests will be immersed in the world of nineteenth-century Viennese entertainment culture as soon as they step onto the upper level, with images from ballrooms, music halls, and guest gardens. After all, the name Strauss is linked with amusement, and nobody sat down once their music filled the performance hall. Other themes include the spirit of the era, trailblazers like Franz Schubert, the Strauss brand and family, and operetta. The Octagon, a fascinating area on the bottom level, tells the origin of the famed waltz. The Blue Danube on a Moving Screen – Composed by Strauss Junior, “An der schönen blauen Donau,” or “An der schönen blauen Donau,” as the tune is known in German, is Vienna and Austria’s unofficial anthem.
