The Hohe Tauern National Park, Austria’s oldest national park, has been a shelter for distinctive flora, animals, and wildlife since 1984. It runs across the three federal states of Salzburg, Tyrol, and Carinthia and encompasses a total area of 1,856 square kilometers. There are between 15,000 to 20,000 animal species native to the area, and more than 300 three-thousand-metre-high peaks have been identified: A natural wonderland that enchants tourists while shaping the Zell am See-Kaprun area.
The Hohe Tauern National Park is not only Austria’s oldest national park, but also its largest in terms of area. It is the location of Austria’s tallest mountain, the Grossglockner, and the country’s biggest glacier, the Pasterze. The nature reserve region is home to around half of all Austrian native animals, as well as approximately one-third of all Austrian flora.
Several thousand kilometers of hiking and mountain routes span the landscape in the Hohe Tauern National Park region, allowing nature enthusiasts, people seeking peace and quiet, and alpinists to explore the high alpine environment. A tour with competent National Park rangers is very beneficial since they share thrilling and informative details about the area’s animals and vegetation. In the winter, the Tauern valleys are also accessible via snowshoe trekking trips; it is recommended to have a ranger accompany you here as well.

If you journey into the heart of the Kitzsteinhorn, you may learn fascinating things about the nature reserve: the enormous mountain is the hallmark of the Zell am See-Kaprun area and an eye into the Hohe Tauern National Park. The Gipfelwelt 3000 is located roughly 3,000 meters above sea level and has an exhibition in an almost 400-metre-long tunnel as well as two observation platforms: the Panorama Platform Top of Salzburg and the National Park Gallery.
