Haenel Pancera Museum
The Haenel Pancera Museum is a private museum located in Bad Ischl, Austria. It was founded by Wilhelm Haenel, an engineer, and his third wife Ella Pancera, a famous pianist. The museum contains a collection of art and antiques from various cultures and periods, acquired during their travels around Europe and the Orient. The museum is housed in a villa that was built in 1890 by the architect Ferdinand Wendler in the Jugendstil style.
The museum showcases the diverse and eclectic tastes of the Haenels, who traveled extensively around the world and acquired many rare and valuable pieces. You can admire paintings, sculptures, ceramics, textiles, furniture, musical instruments, and more, from Europe, Asia, Africa, and America. Some of the highlights include a 16th-century Flemish tapestry, a 17th-century Chinese porcelain vase, a 19th-century Indian sitar, and a 20th-century Art Deco lamp.
One of the most striking features of the museum is the “Moorish room”, a lavish and exotic chamber that reflects the Haenels’ fascination with the Orient. The room is decorated with intricate tiles, carved wood, colorful fabrics, and ornate lamps, creating a stunning contrast with the rest of the house. The room also contains some of the Haenels’ personal belongings, such as photographs, letters, and books, giving a glimpse into their lives and personalities.
