The Grundlsee parish church in the district of Bräuhof in Grundlsee is a Roman Catholic parish church in the state of Styria’s district of Liezen. It is dedicated to Jesus’ Sacred Heart. The Grundlsee parish is part of the Oberes Ennstal – Styrian Salzkammergut deanery, along with the Altaussee and Bad Aussee parishes.
A committee of 14 persons was founded in 1882 to build a church at Grundlsee. The group included the Count of Meran, Count Kesselstatt, and Prince Kinsky, as well as their families. These family carried the lion’s share of the financial burden of constructing the church.Dean Dr. Köberl before the ceremonial setting of the foundation stone on November 19, 1888.
The structure was built in the neo-Gothic style according to plans by Robert Mikovics and under the supervision of Bad Aussee master builder Max Cordignano. The tower cross was installed on September 15, 1889.The three bells, weighing 176, 87.5, and 48 kg, were dedicated and raised on June 12, 1890.The church’s formal consecration took place the next day.
The church began as a branch of the parish of Bad Aussee before being elevated to the rank of parish church in 1952 under Pastor Valentin Feiner.
The tower clock was salvaged from the so-called “Troadhüttn,” a courtyard box on Bad Aussee’s Chlumeckyplatz that was demolished in 1886.This clock was replaced in 1957 with an electrically driven clock, which was eventually replaced by a radio clock. In 1970, the bell was electrified. The court case clock’s stone weights with iron rings still exist as curbstones on the church plaza today.
The majority of the neo-Gothic interior was built around the turn of the century.A people’s altar was built in 1977 from a portion of the original high altar; the original central section is now the tabernacle on the right side of the church.
The sanctuary has sculptures of Jesus, Margareta Maria Alacoque, Notburga, and Antonius von Padua. Similar to the tabernacle are figures of Joseph and Maria. These wood-carved sculptures, as well as the relief painting “Our Lady of the Passion” on the left side of the nave and the 14 Stations of the Cross, are works by Val Gardena. The “Madonna on the Globe” statue was presented by Countess Czernin von und zu Chudenitz and dates from the second part of the 16th century.Three windows from Innsbruck’s glazing studio may be found in the choir. The crucified Christ is shown in the left window beside the Virgin Mary, Maria Salome, the apostle John, and a Roman centurion. The second portrays a view from the Mount of Olives. Ferdinand Potnik donated the third window, which depicts Saint Barbara with miners.
Because to the efforts of Pastor Anton Steinwender, the parish church has been equipped with an organ manufactured by Rieger of Schwarzach (Vorarlberg) since Easter 2000.
