Grazer Volksgarten

The Grazer Volksgarten is a public park located in the Lend district of Graz. It spans over 4.6 hectares. The park was established in 1875 as a complement to the larger Graz city park, located on the opposite side of the Mur River.

The Graz Volksgarten was originally designed based on the concept of the classical Volksgarten, which originated in Germany in the late 18th century. The Volksgarten should not only fulfill the aesthetic requirements of a park, but also serve a purpose as a “active green” space. The park’s responsibility is to offer recreational and sporting activities for people of all ages. The Grazer Volksgarten fulfills this requirement by offering various amenities such as a soccer field, a skate park, and a playground.

Ponds, monuments, and a pavilion were also constructed in accordance with the Volksgarten tradition. Additionally, there are benches positioned along the path that encourage you to take your time and enjoy the surroundings. The Volksgarten underwent a redesign during the International Garden Show in 2000, resulting in its current appearance. For instance, reductions in the path were implemented.
