Flugmuseum Aviaticum

Flugmuseum Aviaticum (Aviaticum Flight Museum) at the civil airfield Wiener Neustadt/Ost in Wiener Neustadt displays exhibits and replicas of airplanes, primarily from Austria’s gliding history, in a hall.The museum was originally rented in an approximately 400 m2 space at Flugplatz Ost belonging to aircraft manufacturer Diamond Aircraft, but had to move in 2019 due to the expiration of the rental contract and Diamond’s own needs.The exhibits have been relocated to a historic aircraft hangar on the other side of the runway.Although an official reopening is still awaiting, group visits are now available with advance notice.

The museum is based on the collection of pioneers Toni Kahlbacher (1914-2004) and Reinhard Keimel from 1983 for an Austrian gliding museum in Hundsheim/ Spitzerberg, which could not be fulfilled there (5 km south of Hainburg a der Donau).From 1993, the city of Wiener Neustadt, the state of Lower Austria, and the firm Diamond Aircraft Industries GmbH collaborated to eventually open the Aviaticum in 1999 in the new facility at the east airport.The museum is maintained by an association and is based on the private foundation Flugmuseum Aviaticum founded by Kahlbacher and the city of Wr. Neustadt.

10 early gliders and motor planes, including Etrich-Taube (Anton Ott, Mag. Linner), Olympia-Meise, and Rhönlerche, a helicopter with a 7-m rotor.Parachutes, including one from the Cultural Revolution in China, and a 900 m3 rubberized canvas gas balloon.The museum got a book collection on aeronautics and the history of flight in 2000.

A Messerschmitt Bf 109, a Meteor FL 54, a Pischof Autoplan made by Anton Ott, and a Lohner-Etrich Taube Series-F built by Prof. Mag. Heinz Linner and Anton (Toni) Ott are among the aircraft on display.
