Festungsmuseum

Festungsmuseum Salzburg is a museum located in the Hohensalzburg Fortress, the largest and best preserved medieval fortress in Europe. The museum displays various objects and media installations that illustrate the history and function of the fortress, as well as the culture and art of Salzburg in the Middle Ages. Some of the exhibits include Roman coins, pottery, weapons, armor, torture instruments, a fully equipped castle kitchen, and historical musical instruments. The museum also features the Fürstenzimmer, the princely rooms that have been preserved since the early 16th century, with impressive decorations such as a starry ceiling and a tiled stove. The museum is part of the Salzburg Museum and is open daily from 9:30 am to 5 pm (or 7 pm in summer). The admission fee is included in the ticket for the fortress, which can be reached by a funicular railway or by foot.
