Felsenreitschule

The Felsenreitschule (roughly “rock riding school”) is an Austrian theatre that hosts the Salzburg Festival.

The stage is 40 metres (130 feet) wide, with a 4 metre (13 foot) understage. The cantilevered grandstand with the underneath scene dock was also refurbished. A light-tight rain cover was also applied to minimize the noise and protect the stage. This roof has the ability to be opened. The theater has 1412 seats and 25 standing room only.

The roof was replaced during the summers of 2010 and 2011. The new design adds 700 square metres (7,500 sq ft) of floor space for equipment and practice spaces. The new pitched roof, which is supported by five telescopic arms and can be extended and retracted in six minutes, is made up of three moveable section surfaces. Suspension points for stage equipment (hoists) on telescopic supports, increased sound and heat insulation, and two lighting bridges maximize the action on stage. The Felsenreitschule shares a foyer with the Kleines Festspielhaus (Mozart House).
