Evangelical Church of St. Ruprecht

The Evangelical Church of St. Ruprecht is an Evangelical Lutheran church building in Villach’s St. Ruprecht area. The structure is located west of the Roman Catholic branch church of St. Ruprecht.

The nave was constructed in 1785 as a tolerant prayer place and dedicated in 1786.The west tower was constructed in 1863.In the nineteenth century, the church community’s area extended as far west as Völkendorf, north as Einöde, and north-east as Tiffen. When Villach became independent in 1900, the municipal territory shrank.

Oskar Sakrausky, the latter military superintendent, served as pastor of St. Ruprecht beginning in 1979.

The church features a semi-circular closed chancel and a porch tower that protrudes. The facade is supported by pilasters.A plain stuccoed flat roof spans the nave on the inside.

The baroque pulpit altar with columns and canopy is from the latter quarter of the 18th century and was purchased from the Landskron Castle Chapel in 1801.
