Draschepark

The Draschepark is a 13-hectare park in Inzersdorf, Vienna’s 23rd district, Liesing. The name of the park comes from the Drasche von Wartinberg family, who held the two castles on the site from 1857.

Both palaces in the park, the Inzersdorf moated palace from the 17th century and the new palace from 1765 to the south-west of it, were bombed during World War II air raids on Vienna and were eventually demolished in 1965 as part of the construction of the Vienna Southeast Tangential Line.Originally, the park directly around the two castles had a late Baroque decorative garden as well as an area with fruit trees, kitchen gardens, and meadows. The remaining part of the land was designated as a forest park in the Franziszeisches cadastre of 1818 and was spanned by regular aisles. The palace park, which was initially designed in the baroque style, was partially connected to a motorway interchange (“Knoten Inzersdorf”) erected above it.

Only the chestnut avenues and field maple hedges remain from the original landscape plan.Natural bush invasion occurred in the locations.Artificial beds were installed in the streams Altmannsdorfer Graben and Liesing. For recreational purposes, barbecue spaces, playgrounds, and a BMX track were built. In the summer, the Draschepark hosts an open-air movie.
