Deanery Museum

The Deanery Museum in the market hamlet of Haus teaches visitors about almost a thousand years of ecclesiastical history. Prof. Walter Stipperger initiated the establishment of the museum in 1964. At the time, a bishop’s decision elevated it to the rank of deanery museum.

The Deanery Museum is divided into three parts.Aside from the history of the Upper Styrian Ennstal, the museum depicts the exciting time of the Reformation in 1525 and the subsequent Counter-Reformation in 1599.Religious folk art, such as B. the Resch crib, and an art history area, which contains a handwritten missal from the 15th century and the branch cross from the demolished parish church, are other highlights. The Hauser school has an equally great history dating back to 1566.

The parish of Haus im Ennstal has been researched from its first appearance in a record in 1074 to the present day.The initial importance of the Haus parish as a cornerstone of church history – dean’s parish from 1766 to 1965 for the Ennstal and Ausseerland dean’s offices (district dean’s office) – has suffered a dramatic shift with the reorganization of the Graz-Seckau diocese. The parish of Haus is currently part of the Assach – Haus – Schladming – Ramsau am Dachstein – Pichl Catholic parish association.
