The Dachstein chapel is located near the Simonyhütte in the Dachstein mountains. The position is at a height of 2206 meters above sea level. The church known as A is said to be the highest point in the Northern Limestone Alps. The cited place is in the municipality of Hallstatt, which is located in the region of Gmunden in Upper Austria. The Diocese of Linz has authority over it.
Constructed in 1913 by Linz’s renowned cathedral master builder, Matthäus Schlager, the chapel was officially dedicated to the Blessed Sacrament on September 1, 1914 by Linz’s bishop, Rudolph Hittmair. The completion of the chapel’s interior design was first postponed owing to the impact of the First World War.
On July 26, 1925, a commemorative plaque honoring Bishop Hittmair was unveiled in the Dachstein Chapel.
In 1994, Hallstatt priest August Stögner launched the interior design. The altar relief and the celebrating table are said to have originated during this time period. In 2013, and 2014, the centenary anniversaries of the laying of the foundation stone and the consecration were marked.
Following a contribution drive, a refurbishment was completed in 2015. The rehabilitation comprised the replacement of the roof covering, facade, and internal plaster. The rehabilitation costs were divided equally among several groups, including the state of Upper Austria, the Federal Monuments Office, the Diocese of Linz, the Catholic parish of Hallstatt, and individual donors.
