Collegiate Church Of The Holy Trinity

The Holy Trinity Parish and Collegiate Church is a Roman Catholic monastery church of the Neukloster Abbey in Wiener Neustadt, on the crossroads of Ungargasse and Neuklostergasse 1.

Before 1250, the Dominican convent at the Hungarian Gate was established.The choir front of the monastery church pierced the previous eastern city wall, but the city wall to the north is still incorporated into the east wall of the adjacent building.The city gate to Hungary, located immediately to the north, was later removed.The Dominicans’ early-Gothic order church had a basilica structure in the late 13th century, and after being taken over by the Cistercians, it was remodeled in the middle of the 15th century with a hall nave and late-Gothic chapels presented to the west in Neuklostergasse.Neukloster Abbey, with its arcades and inner courtyard, lies immediately close to the south.

The three-aisled Dominican basilica with a large choir was damaged in the 1433 town fire and was turned over to the Cistercians in 1444.The nave was vaulted lower in 1452, and the church was enlarged to the west with a Barbara chapel and a cross chapel in 1453.Emperor Friedrich III and Duke Albert VI were the contributors.The conversionassumed will be built by master builder Peter von Pusika.The pen-side tower was not rebuilt after the fire of 1649 and was replaced with a turret in the ridge of the nave roof.In 1699, the baroque high altar was built.The church floor was raised and an organ gallery was erected in 1734.In 1744, Franz Wagner transformed the Kreuzkapelle into a baroque masterpiece.Iron trusses were placed in the southern aisle following an earthquake.The church roof and ridge turret were destroyed and later rebuilt after the town fire of 1834.Dominik Avanzo re-gothicized the Barbara chapel in 1893.The church roof was devastated by bombs in 1944 and later rebuilt.
