City Theater Steyr

Steyr’s Stadttheater is located on Volksstraße in the Upper Austrian town of Steyr.It also serves as a cinema.

On May 28, 1898, the Kaiser-Franz-Joseph Industry and Trade Exhibition Hall was dedicated.In 1924, it was converted into a folk cinema and performance theatre with 900 seats.It was refurbished in 1951, following to architect Piffl’s ideas.

In 1957/1958, the historic stage wing of the Celestine Church in Steyr near Berggasse was demolished, and a modern stage house was built to the hall of the industrial hall based on the plans of architect Karl von Tobisch-Labotn.The theater opened on September 27, 1958, with Puccini’s La Boheme.
