The cadastral Egidi branch church is located in the municipality of Murau, district of Murau, Styria.Murau’s Roman Catholic branch church, dedicated to St. Egidius, is part of the Murau deanery in the diocese of Graz-Seckau.
The church was mentioned in a text dated 1335.
A three-aisled church from the earliest period of construction, a Romanesque church from around 1200, and an early Gothic church from around 1300.
Part of the church is surrounded by a walled cemetery.The three-aisled church architecture has a somewhat recessed choir square elevated by two steps towards the central nave, as well as a crypt beneath the choir square. Under a shared gable roof, it has a lofty central nave and lower side aisles.The nave has a flat wooden beam ceiling with intricate stencil work from the 1500s.
Matthäus Krenauer constructed the high altar in 1774.It was restored in 1900.In 1766, Franz Rieger created the St. Anna side altar.
In 1855, Friedrich Wagner built the organ.
