Café Mozart

Café Mozart, located in the Getreidegasse, is considered one of the oldest cafés in Salzburg. It was previously known as Gerlich’sches und Erich’sches Kaffeehaus. The traditional premise of Café Mozart continues to be highly valued by artists for its literary performances. “Literature at Café Mozart” is held multiple times throughout the year and is always well received.

Café Mozart, a traditional establishment, is situated in the heart of Salzburg’s renowned shopping street, the Getreidegasse. The coffee house on the bel étage offers a wide range of options on its extensive menu. It includes a variety of breakfast choices, specialty coffees, traditional Austrian desserts, and savory daily dishes.

Café Mozart was named in 1922, but its history as a coffee house dates back much earlier. The café was a popular meeting place for writers and musicians until the 1930s. Later on, it became the renowned home of the Mozart Chess Club. Starting from the 1970s, the Mozart regained its status as a vibrant performance venue for literature and cabaret, attracting renowned celebrity guests. In 2006, the Mozart experienced a revival of its old-school coffee house culture after a less successful period as a clothing shop.
